Summary: Lovely software
Comment: At less than a fiver you can't go wrong.
Having read the books at school my 6 year old daughter was really excited about getting the game and really enjoyed it, yes it was a little difficult in places but give it time.
Well worth it!
Customer Rating:
Summary: hardest game ever
Comment: We have owned this game for about 2 years and have still never completed it, even having sat for hours at a time. The graphics are beautiful but the game play is very difficult in that its not clear where you should be going first or what activity you need to do. A lovely story but not well represented in this game.

Summary: Rainbow Fish Disappoints
Comment: While the animation in this 'interactive story' is very pretty, the play is infuriatingly frustrating. The challenges are not much fun and the fish that nod or shake their heads to confirm actions are infuriating!
Customer Rating:
Summary: Beautifully done, but difficult to play and navigate
Comment: The animation and music are much better than you would normally expect from a children's game, which makes it very pleasing to play.
However, calling it an interactive book is stretching it a bit. I thought it would be like the Living Books series, which my daughter loves, but it is really much more like a game.
There are no written words on the screen, which makes it less than straightforward for the accompanying adult to work out what to do. Progressing the game relies on randomly clicking the different fish until you get the right one (the game is quite rigid in what it wants you to do) and then listening. Presumably this is so that the child can play the game without having to be able to read, but the music sometimes drowns out the instructions, so then it's down to mum to work out from the objects on the screen what the task is. The child has to be supervised/helped to play it... which some people might say is not a bad thing! But my 4 year old can play all of the other games she has aimed at her age group by herself.
On a personal level, she particularly likes the drawing application you usually get somewhere on these packages, but the one provided by Rainbow Fish is surprisingly lame!
So, yeah, an amazing quality of graphics and overall an enjoyable experience, but frustrating.

Bring the underwater adventures of Rainbow Fish to life on your PC with this wonderful interactive children's CD-ROM. With an assortment of charming characters and a huge variety of games, musical fun and activities children aged 3 to 7 years will be instantly spellbound. Poor Rainbow Fish has had his scales stolen and only you can help. Solve the puzzles and complete the challenges to find the thieves and make him beautiful again. You'll meet friends along the way such as Head and Toe (the twin fish) and there are numerous games and activities to keep young minds entertained while teaching valuable skills such as recognition, problem solving, experimentation, logical thinking and creativity. A print shop lets you colour pictures on screen or print for later, and two difficulty levels make sure that younger children are able to join in the fun. Easily installed, the simple interface ensures that navigation is a breeze (vital for younger PC users) and the help menu is available at all times. Use of the mouse and cursor will help develop computer skills and hand-eye coordination, and the print applications available will provide additional PC skills. With the educational benefits you would expect from Dorling Kindersley, Rainbow Fish will surely become a child's favourite. --Amber Harbour
