Summary: Your own physics teacher on CD
Comment: Excellent set of multimedia CDs, perfect for home study with fully narrated lessons and superb animations. Introduces and explains the principles of physics with generous use of graphs, animations and worked examples where appropriate. This is much more than just a revision aid- this is the full GCSE course teaching material packed into 4 CDs.
We chose it because it runs on a 486DX2 processor (66 MHz minimum) and contains teaching material as well as tests. The features we like best are the 3D graphics and the interactive experiments, especially the nuclear reactor. The drag and drop exercises are pretty good too: plotting graphs has never been so easy. Best of all I like the narration, I could listen to it for hours.
Each CD installs separately and provides four utilities: a CD tour, GCSE school, Lab, and Testing Centre. If you are planning on using this just for revision I would allow at least a month to work through the 4 CD set as there are 9 chapters of course material on each CD. The navigation buttons include a search facility, and formulas are included in the relevant lessons.
The Testing Centre provides six exams of 5 questions each, 3 exams covering Core material and 3 extension material, and each exam takes about 15 minutes. The Lab on each CD contains three extra interactive experiments.
After using this at home I passed Physics GCSE in one year at the local college. Excellent product, good value for money.
