Summary: Disappointing attempt at revision aid
Comment: It is a nice idea of the BBC to try to help the nation's youngsters gain better GCSE grades, but with a CD rom like this one they might as well have not bothered doing so. I always thought that on CD roms you would be using the 'learn by doing' revision method. In practise, most of the information that needs digesting is printed there on the screen, in quite similar fashion in fact to that in the school text books.
The test yourself section is probably the most helpful part, but it ends up being boring a tiresome. The CD rom also seems to have aimed at the bottom end of the academic scale, apparently forgetting that some cleverer people want revision help as well. You can select either 'higher' or 'lower' levels, i selected 'higher' so I'd hate to see what the 'lower' section of the CD rom is like.

Comment: This is really Great! As this is my first revision CD I want now to get more in the BBC Bitesize revision Range! The BBC are coming out with more in the range from spring 2001, includeing German! This program is very easy to install! just 1 minute from start to finish! The program is for higher and foundation sets but its content mainly goes upto a B grade. The only It has a number of tests and exam papers from the past. It tells you when to have a break and shows how much revision you have to do.
One other advantage is that during 'Peak' revision times you can have any questions sorted out from a teacher, although it can take upto 72 hours for them to reply! Online soupport is great as well and so it the TV/Video, and Book help.
If you want to get the grade you want, this program will sort it out. Although they could of chosen a better helper than Tim Vincent (Ex Blue Peter, Cloths Show presenter)
Im off to buy the Maths version!

The Science GCSE Revision CD from the BBC's Bitesize Revision series is an excellent resource for study and preparation for exams. Installable on a PC operating with Windows 3.1, Windows 95 or 98, it presents you with a full regimen from which you can organise effective revision over any period of time. Multiple users are supported, each able to keep track of his or her own progress. There are plenty of practice questions and "revision bites", and you can highlight areas on which more study is necessary. Work from the CD can be printed in PDF format to take away from the computer, and you can pace your progress in several different ways, coming back to the desired place on subsequent sessions.Science topics include all items dealt with in GCSE standard, with study divided by tier (Double or Single Award Science, Foundation or Higher) which is selectable at the start of revision. Topics cover extensively several subjects, including all the current themes taught in the disciplines of Chemistry, Physics and Biology, all clearly illustrated with examples and plenty of factsheets and diagrams. Reference tables and summaries are available, and you can keep your own fully organised and personalised notebook alongside lessons.
