Summary: A beautiful commentary on early years educators
Comment: This gentle and generous book kept me entranced from start to finish. Ms Paley has an extraordinary eye for detail, for sub-text and for the very thing that matters most. In this case, it is the children, their families and most of all, the adults whose job it is to care for them who are the heroes of this book.
Throughout the descriptive passages, I actually felt that I was in Mrs Tulley's room myself. I shared her aspirations for the children in her care and Ms Paley allowed her to take the lead as we were drawn into the philosophies and strategies of her day care centre.
The storytelling in Mrs Tulley's room consisted, in one case, of a simple one word tale. This was given so much value and placed in a context so meaningful, that that one word had a resonance of its own.
All early years educators should read this book, in order to be inspired, to be challenged and to believe in the rich, powerful world of the children in their care. Thank you Ms Paley for sharing this with us.
