Summary: Not the Best

Comment: This book wasn't one for me as I didn't like the layout and the general 'feel' of the book; it seemed almost 'disorganised'.

Topics were grouped in sections such as "surgery" and "medicine now", which was fairly useful, since all information was together about a specific topic, although it also meant that the sense of time was lost. There was also the fact that following "medicine now" came "public health", "women in medicine" and "surgery" which was too far from chronological for my liking.. I would have prefered a better summary at the end to give me a clearer view on the dates. Some linking between the topics might also have been apprechiated.

The book did, however, have useful qualities; the last miniute learner was rather good and the 'key' facts were fairly good.

The layout is mainly spider diagrams and is fairly bright- with key facts in yellow (since apparently you remember things better if they are on yellow paper- revision tip!), so if you prefer to learn like that then the book may be for you.

I'm not sure if the book was 'in depth' enough in some areas, although it did definately give the key facts. I don't think it's the best revision guide available for this topic- many teachers recomend one by Heinmans (sp?) which may be worth checking out before making a decision.

Summary: One of the Good Guides.

Comment: As a student coming up to my GCSEs, I think I might have died of sheer panic without the BBC Bitesize resources available to me. I think that the Bitesize History Revision Guide is better laid out than the CGP one, with topics such as Surgery in one "chapter" rather than events in Medicine through Time discussed as they happen in a timeline. It makes the guide much easier to revise from.
It also has many useful features such as a Revision Checklist, so that you can make sure you have learnt everything, and tear out mini notes that you can carry around if you need to revise quickly.
My only warning with this revision guide is that the sample exam questions that are given may not be applicable to the exam board that your school is using, so be careful, the question style may differ.
This Bitesize Guide is on Medicine through Time, Germany, and The American West.
