Summary: A good reference and a self-study tutorial
Comment: Deliborates social issues such as racial discrimination, violence in the society, poverty, children and young people in need and reviews housing, health and schooling in the UK.
Revised annualy it gives detailed and updated information on legal provisions concerning social welfare.
Includes addresses of charities and insitutions involved in the provision of public services.
Excellent self-study tutorial with lots of figures and activities following each chapter.
The book is a well-known reference amongst social workers and students of social sciences in the UK.
A must.

Summary: Useful text book for anyone studying sociology
Comment: I am currently doing an access course on Sociology and this is one of the books on the reading list so it is obviously considered to be a representative on the theme. I haven't read it in full yet but have browsed in it and it seems to be user-friendly and good for a lay person to get to grips with this extensive subject.
