Summary: The best by far
Comment: I bought this book because I am going to teach A level Physics after a few years just doing GCSE. It is excellent, the authors manage to take a topic through the simple early stages of understanding up to really quite detailed high brow stuff very smoothly. There is help with the maths too, which is often the stumbling block for many A level students. It appears to cover the 2008 changes in the course and many other topics beyond. I look forward to using as my manual for my teaching and I shall recommend it to my students.

Summary: It's a good reference text.
Comment: Advanced appologies to those who believe this book should maitain it's 5-star rating. However, this book is often a little too overwhelming on matters that ought to be kept simple, yet awfully fundamental with other areas which need much more work particularly on A-Level syllabuses. As a reference text it works fantastically, although the important data is often embedded in chunks of text which has a tendancy to waffle - Nevertheless, it is in there somewhere!
For AS candidates it takes no mercy in diving straight into the deep end. I feel an improvement would be to outline the important equations and reference which exam boards require it. For example, there are many equations OCR may use but AQA may not. Thus, I doubt you will find it useful as a revision text.
There is light at the end of the tunnel! The areas on 'physics of space' is good if you are studying this for A-Level. However, if you are hoping to learn capacitance all of the important information is spread over several pages - not efficient for those who are predicted below B grades.
Concluding; this book will prove useful during coursework, research, general interest, and further reading for higher level students. But it is not useful as a primary textbook, self-study book, or an introductory to physics A-Level. This book is best read after a topic has been covered.
I reccommend 'Physics through Diagrams' but make sure you use a mainsteam textbook (preferably not Collins)to test your descriptive and numerical skills.

Summary: This is everything you need for a level physics and more
Comment: This book helped me with a level physics a lot. It contains a lot of information on aspects of physics. Whatever board you are doing for a level this book has all you need. Just pick out and use the parts you need.
Apart from use for a level physics this goes into so much detail you could use it to for further study such as in universities.

Summary: Best A level physics book ever
Comment: I wish this book had been around when I was doing my A levels. It is clear, comprehensive and concise. I particularly like the "maths help" section. Buy it - it will be one of the best £30 you ever spend.

Summary: Brilliant
Comment: I used this text book to help me with A level physics, I am now still using it occasionally to help with second year University physics. The topic matter is split into 13 sections, for example 'handling data', 'waves' and 'the physics of particles'. Little touches make use of the book appealing; such as appendices of the fundamental constants of nature & some other useful numbers, formulae and the SI units. 20 pages at the end of the book explain the maths required to understand the content. In my opinion the book is slightly less appropraite for those who really struggle with A level physics, being more suited to capable students. A fine purchase.
