Summary: excellent reference to start with.
Comment: having studied Ancient Greek for 5 years now, I would say that this book may turn out to be very useful sometimes, expecially when in a hurry or not at home: it is very user-friendly and clear.
However, if you want to have a deeper insight into Ancient Greek and the different translations/connotations of words, then choose something more professional.

Summary: Almost perfect
Comment: The dictionary covers most of the words used in the classical and koine period of the greek language and it's a pretty good tool for scholars or people that want to learn ancient greek on their own. The only drawback that I've seen in this dictionary is that it does not specify what case take intransitive verbs that have logical objects (in greek, there are verbs which take the genitive or dative case instead of the accusative for their objects). If it did specify that information, then it would have been almost perfect. That's why I give it 4 stars instead of 5. Anyway, I highly recommend this book along with the Pocket Oxford Grammar of Classical Greek, which is very good for reference.

Summary: Excellent handbook
Comment: Covers almost all NT words, although its focus is classical Greek, very helpful table of 100 irregular principle parts and the English to Greek is valuable too. Again and again the authors have so helpfully preempted a beginner's difficulties with tracing a root by helpfully including entries for unusual aorists and other parts in the dictionary itself.
Highly recommended (large) pocket dictionary.

Summary: A very good resource for anyone studying Ancient Greek
Comment: I was a bit unsure about buying this book because I already have two Greek lexica. I was persuaded to buy it because of its English - Greek section, which many do not have. I am currently doing my Greek A Level and anyone who has ever studied using N&H's "Greek Prose Composition" will know that the vocabulary in the back is not always as helpful as it might be! The rest of the dictionary is very good. The Greek-English section is very thorough and the text is well set out. Well done to the authors for including thumb tabs for the letters - it makes finding a word much quicker! Even more helpful is the fact that the dictionary includes an index of proper names (essential if you are unsure of the accepted English tranliteration of a Greek name), a list of principle parts of common irregular verbs and a map of Ancient Greece. All in all a very valuable asset and well worth the money. Also very helpful is the "Oxford Grammar of Classical Greek" by James Morewood.
