Summary: Knowledge costs monsy
Comment: As a requirement for a networking course I had to purchase this book.While the hefty asking price to a large bite out of my student loan(Thanks for the grant Tony!) it was money well spent. Panko's informalwriting style and friendly layout make it fairly easygoing on the jadedstudent's eye.
The book is versatile for readers of varying knowledge, from a point ofview of someone with a good knowledge of networking theory I was soonlearning new concepts and enthusiastically reading ahead.
The first 5chapters cover LANs and chapter 6 covers telephony and provides a usefulbridge to WANs. From there on out many topics including security andpractical exercises are covered.
While a very useful resource to have the price of the book is quite high,and for a book in the fourth edition there are quite a few spelling andgrammatical errors. Furthermore some of the Americanisms used will not beunderstood by non-US readers.
A useful but pricey read for those who need the knowledge.

Summary: Excellent text book for business students!
Comment: This is really an exceptionally good book for teaching networking concepts to business students.
I have been looking at quite a lot of books for this purpose and came across this one. I'm happy I have:
- it's very well written
- the modular approach permits you to choose whichever topics are of interest to the objectives of your course
- it covers each and every topic that a business student should know about networks, and even more
- Panko personally maintains the accompanying website with very up-to-date information, Internet exercises, Powerpoint presentations, etc.
I really am impressed with the quality of this book!
