Summary: Great book, but you need the grammar one too
Comment: This is an excellent book, giving examples of all the Russian phrases you could possibly want in a variety of common situations.
It seems to be aimed at various levels- beginners, intermediate learners, or those who want to extend their vocabulary but don't know where to go.
Only those who are highly fluent might not find too much of interest in this Vocabulary book, but I would still thoroughly recommend the Grammar book even to fluent learners.
It's very important to buy the Grammar book as well if you don't know much Russian- a previous reviwer gave this Vocab book 1 star because it doesn't teach you how to pronounce words.
The simple reason is that pronunciation is covered in the Shaum's Russian Grammar book, not this one.
My suggestion is to buy them both if you're learning, or just buy the Grammar book if you're already very good. You won't regret it.

Comment: If you are learning Russian to read and write in Russian only this book is for you. However, if you also want to speak in Russian this book will not help you.
In order to pronounce Russian words correctly it is essential to know which vowel is the stressed vowel. This is important because the pronunciation of some vowels changes significantly when stressed compared to when unstressed, e.g. the letter "o". Frustratingly, this book presents useful lists of words but does not indicate the stressed vowels, meaning that it is impossible to know how to pronounce words with more than one vowel.
If the stressed vowels were indicated this would be a useful book. However in its current form it is more of a hindrence than a help.
