Summary: Fun and educative!
Comment: The drawings are superb as they are not cluttered, but yet full of interesting little details, hidden all over the illustrations. (You wil find Ducks shopping items on every page for instance, which is good fun.) Very good for training little children's observation skills. The storyline is kept very simple, focussing on just one problem: Duck's stuck in the muck. It therefore has children's attention immediately and also makes it a good tool for training 'before and after' with young children. As the other reviews already said again and again: the story is in rhyme which supports children's ability to reflect on language and grow in this area (e.g. Can they think of more words sounding like Duck, muck, stuck?). It's a story very suitable for use in nurseries and pre-schools and has a recommendation from Child Education.

Summary: Poor Physics
Comment: This is the story of Duck's efforts to free his truck from the muck.
Don't get me wrong, this is an excellent book for toddlers. The illustrations have some charm, the rhythmic, rhyming text well crafted, and the characters engaging. The narrative provides plenty of opportunities for discussions about what is decent behaviour, because despite the helpfulness of the other characters, duck behaves as a boorish ingrate.
However, I don't think the characters are thinking very clearly. For instance, sheep rolls up in a jeep. Clearly this high-torque vehicle would be an excellent candidate for extracting the truck with a tow-rope, but no: Sheep crosses the mud with a slurp and a squelch and a suck, to fruitlessly attempt to *push* the truck. While he may be more help pushing than the duck and the frog (!), everybody's overlooking the jeep which would do the job in a trice.
Ultimately (and don't read on if you don't wish to be spoiled about the ending) goat uses the tiny outboard motor on his boat on the lake alongside the mud to pull the truck out of the mud. This isn't very efficient to start off with because he pulls at at least 30 degrees to the truck's direction of travel on account of being in the lake. Secondly, the outboard motor working against the water would only have a fraction of the pulling power of the jeep, with its chunky tyres and 60HP engine, which arrived at the party earlier.
Two further smaller issues with the narrative are the duck's use of a bonnet ornament rather than the intended towing point (which is bad practice) and the fact that after the truck is free, the cable comes loose; one would imagine that if this was going to happen, it would do so when the cable was under greatest tension, and the truck was still in the muck, rather than when it was moving freely.
Still, if one is willing to overlook these shortcomings, this is an excellent book.

Summary: Got fed up paying library fines!
Comment: I borrowed this from the library for my son (nearly 2), kept hiding it with the intention of taking it back but after the tantrums when he couldn't find "Duck" I gave in and bought it. He loves the pictures and the rhymes and is starting to finsh our sentences as we go through it.

Summary: Duck In The Truck
Comment: This was one of my sons first books when he was 4 months old, and he still loves it now he is almost 3. He loves the rhythm and will join in with the reading. He knows every word of it just like his dad and I! A lovely, funny and bright book spurring me on to order the others in the series.

Summary: Fantastic Duck
Comment: What a fantastic book. My 2 year old is riveted to this book and the way it rhymes. It didnt take long before she knew all the words and joined in with the book. Sorry no skipping pages in this book, they notice!. She understands the pictures and what they are saying to her. It is such a good book that we bought the whole series and she loves them.
