Summary: Great program for the money but video editing limited
Comment: FOr the money this seems to be a very good program. The photo editing capabilities are excellent and give better quality than any other I have used.
On the video end the program is much more limited. Many of the features I wanted for video (splicing, cropping, zoom) heck even just turning the image 90 degrees are not available. Additionally the program seems not to recognize Mpegs as a video format. WHen I connected my HD camcorder via firewire, it had no problem recognizing and playing, but when I connected my kodak digital camera with HD video recording in Mpeg format, it would not recognize as a video. COuld be user error on my part but I think that to NOT be the case. I purchased this program because of its great reviews by PCMag and its capability to work with HD video material.
My opinion is that if your goal is to retouch and store old and new photos and want the ability to save that HD digital recording from your cam, then this is a great program. However if your goal is to do some advanced editing of your HD video then you will be disappointed. Maybe I was expecting too much for a program at this price.

Comment: I love this product. I hated previous Roxio products (trust me they were terrible- Version 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10) except Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 Platinum Edition which was great with Windows XP if installed without Drag to Disk packet writing software. Roxio 2009 (NO Drag to Disk utility) works perfectly with my sony VGN-SZ780 with vista ultimate. Before you install please completely remove any old versions. I like it better than Nero 9 which installs InCD packet writing software if you don't choose custom install.

Comment: Just tried to install software today, but NOT happening. Tried it on 2 different computers (1 which is brand spankin' new) and neither would take it. It gets to a point that it decides to quit installing then rolls back (uninstalling itself). Discussions on the web indicate same or similar results with no apparent fixes (but does list some attempts to make a fix). Also, there's not a "Customize" option like most other software. This would allow for only installing certain pieces and maybe narrow down the problems.
I Highly Recommend NOT Purchasing this WORTHLESS software!!! What a waste of time and money.

Comment: Prices seem to be going down all around so this Ultimate pack was very close to getting just an adaptor. Even though I have version 10 the new 2009 version didn't seem to have enough changes for me, but the Ultimate version has a lot more.
The big feature is the video adaptor which converts tapes. I guess there are users young enough that don't have a library of tapes, but I needed some solution. Simple process-- plugin and play, convert to video. It's not a miracle and can't overcome the tape playing time. You can though let it run without watching it. Some videos I keep in its original form, others I've processed with the given programs.
The BD plugin is for burning real BD disks. The program will also make BD disks from regular disks and regular drives, an important distinction. The quality seems to be the same but real BD is much higher in content capacity. Aside from this specialized format there's the normal dvd-rw, dvd-vcr, dual layer.
SoundSoap is an in-depth program to fix sound. Version 10 had a simple sound fixer but SoundSoap has much more capabilities. It restores sound and can remove background noise. Smartsound rounds out the extras and is a comprehensive music creator program.
I think many people have done a good job explaining the standard programs in the suite. Those are very good and I think the extra programs are extremely useful.

Comment: My first try with Roxio easy media was version 9. Now I have the Ultimate Version with a video adaptor. At first glance 2009 doesn't look very different than 9 but there are now a bunch of new things that make it a different enough program.
Video with Videowave and cinemagic: each program has a few more options from 9. The biggest change I found was the soundtrack. It is now much easier to do. It also edits HD video. None too soon considering tv broadcast changes.
Music: Biggest changes here. It makes batch formatting changes and rips disks from several drives at once. The automix is more elaborate.
Photo: It makes autofixes. If I don't like the results I can use the manual setting changes. More album and slideshow formats.
Gadgets: This is new and makes the program a step above others. I can take any media file and convert it to my phone and ipod. It works the other way by sending media to the pc from the gadgets.
Disk burning: Burning is relatively the same but complementary tools are better. It catalogs the disk contents, something I felt was needed in 9. It burnsHD and blueray disks on regular disks. This version also has a BD plugin to use real BD disks and writers.
The adaptor is not much different from others except there's a lot more programs to support the new digital video.
