Summary: Cute little machine

Comment: Bought this netbook as a 2nd laptop for use on-the-go. That was a week ago. Haven't touched my 17" laptop touched since.

Don't underestimate this little machine. It fires up in no time. The screen is bright comfortable in use, and large enough to display virtually any webpage. The batteries are awesome and allow for hours and hours of use. Essential for a mobile machine like this (I'd advise against buying a cheaper model with less battery capacity.)

Prior to buying, I had some worries about the keyboard being too small. This - for my size of fingers at least - turned out not to be a problem at all. The two-finger scrolling and zooming-in functionality of the mousepad is great. (One small problem: would like to reduce the sensitivity of the mousepad somewhat, but that seems not possible, at least not in a straightforward way).

Last but not least: I never worked with a Unix machine, yet this laptop is very intuitive and really easy to use.

My best computer buy in ages.

Summary: Great Deal

Comment: This is a great machine for anyone, xandros is a user friendly GNU/Linux distro that a five year old could use, and with a keyboard shortcut you have access to xterm, from there your possibility's are endless, add some repositories; install some KDE apps, a compiler, an ssh server and your all set. I'm going to use it to control home automation and when not at home I can use it for anything a full sized laptop is needed for. The keyboard did not take too long to get used to, and the touch pad is awesome. 3G wireless is the only thing it lacks.

Summary: Very small, but full of opportunity

Comment: I needed a much smaller laptop to take to classes and around my college. My battery failed horribly on another laptop(a dell, actually) a long time ago, so I shot for the better battery so I could finally have a laptop that was portable.

So, this was the best option and it seems to be working out wonderfully. But, I do recommend some things to be changed, depending what type of person you are.

Linux Lite is great for someone who doesn't know a lot about linux or computers really. It just turns on, and in minutes you can get on the web and do much more. But, if you're a computer scientist like me, or you know linux pretty well, I say buy this but scrap the linux lite. There is a version of ubunutu for this laptop, just search for ubunutu and eee in google for it. You can boot from a flashdrive and put linux on it. Just look up on the web how to, there's a lot of sites to help with that. It really is worth the space and great 6-cell battery(I get about five hours completely with wireless running, turn off the wireless and get even more out of the battery)

I recommend getting a sticker because the glossy finish really does attract every finger print known to mankind. It's 12 bucks for a sticker, but you can make this little thing look really neat plus protect it. Someone else complained about the case it came in, and the case does attract a lot of stuff(fuzz just sticks to it) but if you're not to OCD it's okay.

In general, here's some pros and cons because I know I was researching these a whole lot.

Pros:
Light-weight
Ready in minutes to use
Pretty fast
Charger chord is not clunky
Very long life for battery

Cons:
Can get smudges easily, get a sticker for it or cover
Chuck linux lite if you want a better linux, boot ubuntu on a flash drive instead
Small keyboard, it really takes a bit to get used to, but I'd trade that for weight anyday

Basically, it's worth the extra money to get that space and battery life. If you really don't think you can handle the linux(which it is uber easy to use) then try this with XP. It's a very good quality brand and I'm so glad I didn't get a Dell this time around.

Summary: Perfect except...

Comment: I've had this netbook for 2 weeks now, everything looked good, from the external finish, to the running speed (Linux), to the smoothness between switching programs. The pearl white model is really pretty, battery lasts about 5 hours, and almost silent comparing to the Dell laptop that my husband has. The computer really accomplished everything I needed to do on the road.

The only puzzling event that happened was the computer turned itself on after it was properly shut down. As I had my computer inside a padded pouch which is inside my bag, I didn't know it was turned on until I felt the heat coming off of my bag. By that time the computer was so hot I couldn't touch it. I thought the thing would for sure be ruined, but after cooling down for half an hour, it was running like nothing has happened.

From then on, I dare not stuff the computer inside my bag anymore. I just hope that was a single freak event and not something that will happen repeatedly.

Summary: eee pc 901.

Comment: Amazing product. Liked a lot.
Pros:
1. Extremely convient since light weight.
2. Attractive.
3. Very sturdy, need not handle it delicately.

Cons:
1. Battery runs out even when I shut down (need to check this closely), when suspended it runs out faster than expected.
2. Have been having issues with volume. Some times there is no sound all of a sudden, need to reboot to fix this; thats a pain.
3. I expected linux to be faster than this since I have an alternative debian system which has smaller configuration. I guess the heavy gui is slowing it down. But its not a major drawback. BTW, the console is hidden deep down. Check in Web storage to open a terminal.
