Introduction from the Author
Greetings students, current and future. You may have never heard of the College of Charleston, though itÂ’s a historic landmark both in the state of South Carolina and in the United States. ItÂ’s the oldest municipal college in the country and has grown from a founding class of 23, to a student population of over 10,000. This may not mean much to you, and I can honestly say that when I was contemplating my academic future, it didnÂ’t have much sway over my decision either. But these facts are some of many that make attending C of C a rewarding and valuable experience. Not many schools possess the history or environment that can be found at the College of Charleston, and not many schools ever will. But more importantly, you can be sure that here at C of C, youÂ’re in good hands, and so is your future. Here, youÂ’ll not graduate empty-handed.
The professors and faculty here genuinely care about the academic welfare of their students and want nothing more than to open more avenues for fruitful and rewarding futures, whether it is a career or a continuation of your higher education. There are many reasons to attend C of C, and many of them are detailed in this guidebook. But donÂ’t get me wrong; the College of Charleston is not for everyone, and this book is not designed to convince you that it is. It is simply here to inform you of what is offered at the College of Charleston, and hopefully to help guide you to the school that is right for you. With this guidebook, you can make a more informed decision about what you like and dislike about the College of Charleston and investigate further what you are really looking for in a college or university. This book is here to help you in any way it can, and I hope it does, wherever you end up in your pursuit of higher learning.
