Summary: Illusions, Delusions, Beliefs
Comment: I found this book to be a very interesting read. When the author remained on track with biological and other scientific arguments, the text flowed in a balanced, persuasive way. When Dawkins, however, strayed into excessive rallying for atheism, I thought he was protesting a bit too much. The book is well done, entertaining in parts, instructive in others. But, in the final analysis, I thought he waved the flag for the "cause" a bit too frenetically which, in my view, tended to diminish -- not his biological or even his sociobiological knowledge -- but his overall attempt to speak to those not in the choir.

Summary: Well written
Comment: Great info, presented in a easy to read style. Purchased for my mom. She LOVED it.

Summary: Interesting But Disappointing
Comment: I was looking forward to a well-reasoned argument by Richard Dawkins' demonstrating that the existence of God is "unlikely". No such argument exists in this book.
Dawkins' description of how a combination of evolution, many planets, and possibly many universes can explain creation is quite worthy. It was fascinating and fun to read how all of pieces of the puzzle might fit together.
However, Dawkins argument attempting to demonstrate that the existence of God is unlikely was quite flawed. Essentially, he commits a fallacy similar to those with which he browbeats his competition. Having no knowledge or evidence of the nature of God, he concluded that God is complex, very complex! Why? Just because, apparently. That's not the only flaw in Dawkins' reasoning.
It was also kind of creepy when he constantly referred to the study of evolution as "consciousness raising".

Summary: Book of Enlightenment. Everyone should read this!
Comment: This should be a requirement in schools! I'm glad people are finally speaking out against religion. This book gives you details of why a belief in gods is so stupid. I wish everyone would read this book!
Customer Rating:
Summary: Renewed Faith
Comment: Every Christian should read this book. As a Christian I always like to know the objections to my faith. And for any belief (i.e.Darwinism) there is a bit of faith required. I'm sure each individual has issues with their faith - that's why its faith. But don't expect to find many legitiate objections here. After reading this book my faith actually increased to see that there is such a weak case against it. Although to be honest I think I could come up with better objections. The general gist is a few strawmen, poor logic, and to my surprise some circular logic.

The general gist is a few strawmen, poor logic, and to my surprise some circular logic.
Richard Dawkins, whom Discover magazine recently called "Darwin's Rottweiler" for his fierce and effective defense of evolution, now turns his considerable intellect on religion, denouncing its faulty logic and the suffering it causes. He eviscerates the major arguments for religion and demonstrates the supreme improbability of a supreme being. He shows how religion fuels war, foments bigotry, and abuses children, buttressing his points with historical and contemporary evidence. In so doing, he makes a compelling case that belief in God is not just irrational, but potentially deadly.
