Comment: My rating is based on what the publisher stated the book would provide, mainly answers to...
* Which programs best prepare students for the rigors of professional practice?
* How are design programs meeting emerging needs in the fields?
* Who are the most admired design educators?
* How do I know which programs are good value for the investment?
* How do programs in my area measure up?
* Where can my firm recruit top graduates?
The book did answer most of these questions to a decent degree (but answers are presented as lists, not analytical paragraphs.)
BUT FIRST - I was surprised at how small the book is (9" x 6.5"). I read through the 95 pages in about 2 hours.
However, the book contains really helpful information for me. I am in the beginning stages of looking for MArch programs. The book contains 4 short essays that let prospective students know about current challenges and future trends in architecture education. Programs reviews are broken down into architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, and industrial design programs.
The survey participants (270 firms and organizations) appear to have answered a broad collection of questions which were analyzed and presented in multiple (and helpful) ways. Ultimately, the data is presented as lists and rankings, but based on the criteria, different schools' strengths are highlighted. Probably the most interesting statistics were the results of the Architect Registration Examination (ARE), where top scoring schools were listed. The test is apparently broken down into 9 sections, and data for each section is listed. The variety in top scoring schools is really interesting.
The information in this book has opened my eyes to programs I would otherwise have not considered (or even known about). Although I read it in 2 hours, I have referred back to it countless times as I explore my options.
Like the other reviewers, I would have liked to see detailed information about each school's focus and philosophy. Although these would naturally change over time, it would help students narrow down what schools to consider.
Is $39 expensive for this book? Yes. But, with the limited information on architecture programs available, this book has been useful.

Comment: I ordered this book to get an indepth view on the different graduate schools for Arhictecture. It had 3 lines of text for each school. It was useless and not helpful. This book is a waste of money.

Comment: I was looking for a book that would review the strengths and weaknesses of schools for landscape architecture, and this book did not. It provides a list of the top rated schools for several design-oriented professions, as well as a list of how the schools are ranked by professionals in various geographic regions. The book was marginally helpful, but not what I was looking for. It's fine if you're just looking for a top 15 list, but it doesn't contain much beyond that.
