Customer Rating:
Summary: Not exactly what I needed
Comment: I work in labor and delivery and was hoping for more Spanish terms to teach my patient proper pushing techniques, all of the required admitting questions, etc.
Customer Rating:
Summary: Better for doctors and nurses
Comment: I am a pediatric occupational therapist and I felt this book was too geared towards medical based terminolgy and diagnostics rather than what I was looking for. Despite, it is well laid out and did provide some nice phrases to use. It definitely won't make you fluent and knowing a bit about Spanish before picking it up definitely helps.
Customer Rating:
Summary: Spanish for Health Care Professionals
Comment: This book has been very helpful in learning Spanish to communicate with my patients. It includes easy to repeat pronunciation guides. Now if we could just get the patients to use the responses they are supposed to, it would be perfect (mostly kidding).
Customer Rating:
Summary: Spanish for Healthcare Professionals
Comment: An incredible and valuable resource for those in the healthcare field who are either bilingual or not and need to address vital information with their Spanish patients. Although this book is smaller-sized than most, it packs a lot of translantion and information. Better than most that we have used in my care facility.
Customer Rating:
Summary: Worth every penny!
Comment: My wife bought this book for me, and it was a Godsend. Chapter lessons are bite sized and arranged in logical/relational order; interpersonal phrases, cultural issues, admission, discharge, fundamental anatomy, hygiene issues, medication issue, etc.
In addition to these categories the book immediately teaches word pronunciation and basic sentence construction...in English sentence format. Perhaps this may sound backwards to a Spanish-speaking listener/patient; however, my message was immediately understood and acknowledged.
Bottom line, this book is an excellent jump off point for someone (like me) serving a high volume of Spanish-only speaking patients.

Updated with a new verb list, more vocabulary, more key phrases, and expanded exercise sections, this book offers English-speaking doctors, nurses, and medical assistants some basic Spanish vocabulary to help them deal with Hispanic patients who speak little or no English. The book starts with pronunciation tips and offers advice on listening comprehension with special focus on words and phrases that are likely to be used in a medical setting. True-to-life dialogues recreate situations involving pregnancy, broken bones, pediatric care, heart and lung diseases, geriatric care, communicable diseases, drug problems, medical treatment of crime victims, and more.
