Summary: Terribly dissappointing.
Comment: This book is almost worthless, in my opinion. It has a two page spread for almost every major imaginable, but what it says about the majors is worthless to anyone interested in the field. Each major has the following sections in the book: basics, if you like X, you may also like..., suggested preparation, sample curriculum, "fun facts", and careers and salary.
The basics is absolutely redundant information. They basically state the obvious.
The if you like this, you may like... is a little helpful, but also quite obvious. If you're interested in German, of course you might like Russian. May be helpful, though.
Suggested prep is also redundant. If it's a math major, take high level math. Science, science. Language, language. Medical, take anatomy.
The sample curriculum is interesting. Doesn't do too much for someone making a decision on what to major in, though.
The fun facts seem to be just space fillers. Any joke ones are extremely dry and boring, and other facts are usually just odd.
Salary is good to know, as well as career options. This, in my opinion, is the only useful part of the book.
I'm undecided when it comes to a college major. I know I want to major in a social science. This book did absolutely nothing to help me determine which one.
Customer Rating:
Summary: HEADS UP ON YOUR FUTURE CHOICES
Comment: I would like to give this book a FIVE Star Rating - but have yet to do that for anything I have reviewed.
This is a Very Helpful Book - in that it does give students some idea of what occupations are available to them (and potential occupational need) in planning for their future.
